New Playlist Needed
When you go through a divorce it's messy. There is a lot of stuff to sort through both emotionally and literally. Do you have any idea how much stuff you can accumulate in 11 years even with a massive sort before a cross country move? Loads of stuff I tell you. And once you've sorted through the house and all the boxes in storage and he's in his place and going out with friends and potentially other girls you're thinking you're done. You've done your deep cleaning of the stuff and the emotions and your life. WRONG.
Today I'm driving along, singing to my favorite songs in my custom playlist (because my car is cool like that) and then all of a sudden "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz comes on. It's a great song- always meant a lot to me but as I was listening to the words it spoke so clearly to the situation he and I are in now. About how we aren't going to give up and how we aren't going to leave when things get tough. It was inspiring and made me cry. Thanks a lot car- I just put mascara on! But at least the tears were happy. Next song "I Will Be Here" by Steven Curtis Chapman comes on and I'm quick on the next button. Our wedding song is not something I need right now. Following that is our first dance song, the song he sang to me at his high school senior choir concert, and then "Last Kiss" by Taylor Swift. FUCK YOU CAR. You're supposed to be on random.....are you trying to make me have an emotional breakdown? I was smart and skipped them all, all expect that damn "Last Kiss" song. For some reason I sat there driving down the freeway singing along and sobbing. Why didn't I just push next? I was able to for all the others and I just kept singing and listening and crying and realizing that Swift sure knows how to write about things that actually happen and make them so damn real that anyone can relate. I suppose that's why she's won so many awards. But seriously. Have you heard that song? Have you actually listened to the words? Well I'm going to make you now. And don't tell me you can't relate and don't tell me you aren't crying. It's too good and too bad all at the same time. So fuck you car and fuck you Taylor Swift. I was looking alive today and by the time I got to where I was going I was a mess.
